Frequently Asked Questions
What are your areas of expertise?
My areas of expertise include anxiety and depression, relationship issues and sexual issues but my therapy is not limited to these issues.
Who do you work with?
I specialize in providing therapy for adults residing in New York and New Jersey. I generally find that my treatment is particularly effective for adults over 21, but I also welcome individuals aged 18 and above. I do not currently work with children or couples.
Do you provide in-person or online counseling?
All of my sessions are conducted online through a secure telehealth platform, ensuring that you can access therapy from the comfort of your home. For established clients, phone sessions are also available as needed. At this time, I am not offering in-person sessions.
How do I know its time to seek therapy?
When you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or notice persistent changes in your mood, behavior, or relationships, it may be time to seek therapy. If your daily life or well-being is being impacted, therapy can provide valuable support and guidance and teach you the skills to manage long after therapy has ended.
Are all sessions confidential?
Yes, all sessions are strictly confidential. Your privacy is protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), ensuring that our work together remains private and secure.
What theoretical approach do you use?
My therapeutic approach is integrative, tailored to meet your unique needs. I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you develop practical skills, such as interpersonal effectiveness, goal setting, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and self-advocacy. I also incorporate psychodynamic principles to explore the origins of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and utilize trauma-informed care and psychoeducation to support your healing and growth.
How long do appointments last?
Each therapy session is 50 minutes long. This is the standard duration that allows us to work together effectively while maintaining focus on your therapeutic goals.
Why is therapy better than speaking to a friend about my problems?
Therapy provides a confidential, non-judgmental space with a trained professional who can offer evidence-based techniques and strategies. While friends can offer support, therapy is focused on helping you achieve lasting change.
Can I claim my session on insurance?
Yes, Leila accepts most Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance plans and private pay patients. Additionally, for out of network benefits through your insurance plan, Leila offers a superbill which can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement.
How long do people typically stay in treatment?
The length of treatment varies depending on your goals and needs. Some clients find relief after a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. We'll regularly review your progress to ensure therapy continues to meet your needs.
How often do I see my therapist?
Typically, clients start with weekly sessions, but the frequency can be adjusted based on your needs and progress. We’ll work together to determine the schedule that’s best for you.
How do I pay for my sessions?
You will submit payments via credit or debit card through a HIPAA protected payment application.
